The opening and welcome address was delivered by Prof Ricky Mukonza, Academic Manager of the Faculty in Polokwane. In his speech, he quoted the well-known theologian John Henry Newman from his book The Idea of a University, saying, “A university is a place where knowledge is pursued, where the intellect is disciplined and where the mind is enlarged. Moshibudi Sebola, Operations Manager for Consumer Education at First National Bank led a two-day financial literacy masterclass for first year students at the Tshwane University of Technology Polokwane Campus aimed at shaping responsible financial habits early in the students’ academic journeys. The event was nothing short of inspiring, as finalists took to the stage to vie for the ultimate titles. The finalists calling to an end against GBV with an impressive performance on stage Opening the ceremony was Nduvho Gudumi from the Campus Rector’s Office, who also served as the event organiser under the Directorate of Extracurricular Development (DED). In his welcoming address, Gudumi expressed heartfelt appreciation to everyone in attendance, dedicating the day to all finalists regardless of the outcome. The two-day event formed part of Telkom’s national hackathon series. A programme designed to spark innovation and entrepreneurship as the Telkom FutureMakers initiative celebrates its tenth anniversary. In collaboration with Telkom Learn and the Telkom Centres of Excellence, the hackathon series invited South Africa’s brightest young minds to develop digital solutions aligned with Telkom’s value propositions.
