Polokwane Campus Extends a Warm Welcome to the 2026 First Year Cohort

The Polokwane campus officially welcomed its new cohort during a well-attended orientation programme hosted by the Office of Academic Excellence in collaboration with the TUT101 Champions on Friday, 20 February. The event marked the beginning of the students’ academic journey and was designed to facilitate a seamless transition into university life. It also provided essential information and guidance to support students in achieving a rewarding and successful experience at Tshwane University of Technology.

The official welcome was delivered by Professor Ilze Swarts on behalf of the Office of the Campus Rector. In her address, she encouraged students to take ownership of their academic responsibilities by remaining disciplined, attending lectures consistently, and actively engaging in their learning. She further emphasised the importance of balance and personal growth during their time at the university. “You are now part of our university community. It is our hope that, upon completion of your qualification, you will reflect on your years here as among the most meaningful and transformative of your life,” she said.

Representatives from various campus directorates, as well as invited external stakeholders, addressed the students on a range of important topics. These included institutional compliance, the student judicial system, student governance, sport participation, and the comprehensive support offered by Library and Information Services. Students were assured of the availability of structured academic intervention programmes and holistic support services throughout their studies at Tshwane University of Technology.

The orientation programme also created a valuable platform for engagement between first year students and the various service divisions within the university. Through interactive and extracurricular activities, students were afforded opportunities to connect with peers, build networks, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging within the campus community.

Dr Anna Muchandigona, TUT101 Champion Coordinator, expressed appreciation to the incoming cohort for selecting the Polokwane campus as their institution of choice. She reaffirmed the university’s commitment to academic excellence and student success. “We commend you on your decision to join our campus. We are dedicated to ensuring that your academic journey is both enriching and fulfilling, and we remain committed to supporting you throughout your studies,” she said.
