“Your Mental Health is Important”: Eddy Monare motivates students of the Polokwane campus

When we talk about health, we often base it on the outside - how our hair looks, clean white teeth, glowing skin, what we are wearing, how we smell, amongst other things. While these may be important, how important are they if your mind is not well?

The Institutional Student Representative Council raised their concerns and invited expert speaker Eddy Monare to address the matter and importance of one’s mental health. A Mental Health Awareness Campaign was held on August 6 at the Polokwane campus, with the theme being ‘Mental Health as the key to living a meaningful life’.

Encouraging students to take care of themselves, drink water, seek help and “cast their burdens”, Eddy shared that these ways should not be considered a hobby or something done for fun, but instead should be seen as a way of life. “Speaking to students, I wanted them to take a motivation so serious that it is passed down to their offspring,” said Eddy. “I do not want to cut the leaves of the tree, but rather go deep into the roots, find the problem, and offer a solution. Everyone should always stay motivated.”
